Hobby Magazines - Portal Magazine Issue #28

It is magazine time again. Today I will talk about Issue #28 of Portal Magazine with a reeeeally cute cover which fits nicely to christmas time.

Portal Magazine Issue #28
  • In The Box sees if zombies are really taking over mid-town America.
  • Two great tutorials from Sean Fulton and Marko Paunovic.
  • Reviews of miniatures from Dark Sword, Reaper, DGS Games, Guild of Harmony and Stephané Simon.
  • News of the New Red Box Games painting contest.
  • Great gallery with all the entries in the successful Sodapop Miniatures painting Contest.
  • The latest news and best releases from around the hobby.

Ok, so let's see what we've got in here:
  • Loads of reviews for miniatures and a "In the box" for the game "Last Night on Earth".
Most of the (miniature) reviews are not really interesting for me. The game is nothing I would play with my friends (I already have Starquest, Descent and Munchkin) and soon Sedition Wars so I just scanned the articles and went on.

  • A painting tutorial from Sean Fulton, where he paints a sneaky goblin.
Pretty cool stuff! The article goes Step by Step through most of the painting process. Sean explains how he paints skin, eyes, gems and even the rust on the base and knives. Definitely worth reading.

  • A building tutorial from Marko Paunovic, where he explains how to build a village- and a tower house.
Again a good read. The article explains exactly what you need with material lists and even diagrams for the measurements. At the end of the article there are some tips how you can achieve some small effects like creating lilly pads with greenstuff.

  • Lots and lots of painted miniatures
Nothing else to say. Really lots of painted miniatures. Some of the paintjobs are really really impressive.

Conclusion
Again an issue worth reading. The tutorials alone are worth reading this issue in my opinion. So give it a try if you haven't.

So long,
Paradox0n
